One word, printed big enough to start a conversation: নাস্তিক — Nastik. In Bengali it means atheist. The word itself is old. It comes from the Sanskrit nāstika, “one who says it is not,” used in classical Indian philosophy for schools that rejected Vedic authority, among them the materialist Charvaka. Bengali kept the word and narrowed it. Today it simply means someone who doesn’t believe in God, and says so plainly.

Beneath it runs a line that has been argued over for centuries: “ধর্ম বোকার কাছে সত্য, জ্ঞানীর কাছে মিথ্যা আর শাসকের কাছে অস্ত্র” — “Religion is true to the fool, false to the wise, and a weapon to the ruler.” Versions of this aphorism are usually credited to Seneca, though the closest documented ancestor is Edward Gibbon’s history of Rome, where rulers find religion “useful.” This Bengali version sharpens the last word from useful to weapon. It prints truth, falsehood, and weapon in red, so the three verdicts land one at a time.

It’s also a very Bengali kind of statement. This is the land of adda, where everything gets argued, and it has a long record of people who argued with religion itself. Akshay Kumar Datta, the 19th-century writer often called a pioneer of modern Indian rationalism, made a point of defying the taboos of his day. Aroj Ali Matubbar, the self-taught Bangladeshi philosopher from Barisal, spent a lifetime questioning religion and superstition while working as a farm laborer. Doubt has deep roots here.

The lettering is hand-brushed in white and blood red, printed on 240 GSM bio-washed, combed cotton in our oversized cut. It comes in Black, Mustard Yellow, Navy Blue, Off White, and White.

If you wear your convictions on your chest, Sirdara Ekhono Soja says “the backbone is still straight” in an oversized fit. Nijer Gyan Nijer Kachei Rakhun is the lighter-hearted cousin: keep your wisdom to yourself. Unapologetic Bangali rounds out the attitude set. Belief is personal. So is doubt. Wear yours.
